Well, It's been continuously raining. Most of the nights during this year happen to be cloudy nights here in Coimbatore. I am not complaining, but wondering about the change in sky watching conditions in Coimbatore. I am yet to complete my sun filter. Hoping to finish it in a week or two and use at the daytime to observe the Sun using my scope if the clouds are kind enough to give way. I have a mylar filter which is very comfortable to use with my binoculars to observe Sun spots everyday.
TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE : 22nd July 2009
On Wednesday, 2009 July 22, a total eclipse of the Sun is visible from within a narrow corridor that traverses half of Earth. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow begins in India (starts at 16:03, reaches mid eclipse with 54% of the Sun covered at 17:03 and ends at 17:57.) and crosses through Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and China. After leaving mainland Asia, the path crosses Japan's Ryukyu Islands and curves southeast through the Pacific Ocean where the maximum duration of totality reaches 6 min 39 s. A partial eclipse is seen within the much broader path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes most of eastern Asia, Indonesia, and the Pacific Ocean.
